Hatta - Hiking

Hatta Water Dam

“HATTA” – A small Arabian village with green vegetation’s, farms few dams and less rush of homo sapiens this all attracted me to this place and I was waiting for the destination to call me for An HIKE. Another holiday was arrived for that and this time I didn’t make much planning for the trip. All I want to know was is there any public transport available or not? And by god’s grace this time also I found a bus (E-16) going from Al Sabkha bus station to Hatta every day from morning 06:30 am in a regular interval of every three hours. I started my journey in morning 04:30 am from camp because then only I will able to reach Al Sabhka bus station on time. I get my friends vehicle for that and he drops me at a metro station and from there I make to Al sabhka.

Bus arrived on the correct time and the rush was horrible. As a last passenger I get in to the bus and there is not even place to stand inside the bus. For the first one hour I felt too much sick because of the rush but later it starts decrease and before reaching Hatta there is only 2-3 passengers left in the bus. Hatta is a border village that sharing its border with “Sultanate of Oman”. Hajar Mountains are the main attraction in Hatta the brownish terrains which created the border for UAE & Oman. Bus reached Hatta bus station after a long 3 hour journey. It was around 09:15 I arrived at the Hatta bus station.

Hiking Trail

Immediately after arrived at the bus station, I start hiking towards my first destination which is to the Hatta dam and on the way to Hatta dam I found Hatta hiking trail which goes through the lush green farms, which is a quiet rare seen for me in these nine years of UAE life. These Farms cultivating many type of vegetable’s, some fruits, dates etc. Around a hiking of 15 minutes through this trail it take me to a pigeon farm. A pleasant beauty, I seen there a flock of white pigeons all over flying in front of the farm. And inside the farm there is hens and goats also, I spent few minutes there by capturing the pictures of those white beauties. At last the 45 minutes of hike take me to the bottom of an uphill climb. And Hatta Dam is situated on top of this uphill climb. The climb was not less than 350-400 meters long & I take another 20 odd minutes to climb up.

And after this steep climb I was blessed with the visual of gorgeous water body surrounded with hajar mountain ranges and it looks like a bowl contains pristine green colored water. Hatta kayaking is the main thing to do here. It cost you only 60 dhs for a single seat kayak for unlimited time. Sharing kayaks and boats also available here, which costs is high. I spent around an hour watching the beautiful lake and mountains. There is a huge beautiful painting of HH Sheikh Rashid Al maktoum and HH sheikh Zayed al nahyan in a huge wall of dam. Also there is a huge camping area right down the dam. Those likes out-door camping this place will be a good option in Dubai. After an hour I starts descent. From there I went directly to Hatta heritage village, which need only a half hour hike from Hatta dam.

Hatta heritage village it’s a reconstruction of traditional mountain village which was opened to public in 2001 after renovation. The village picturing the life style of Dubai before all these today’s most modern developments came.it contains 30 odd buildings and 2-3 watch towers of old-time the village fully look likes a fort. Story lovers must need to visit here because it have many stories to share with you. Around an hour, I spent there to take some beautiful pictures of Hajar Mountains and that old village. From the watch tower, one able to see the full Hatta surrounded by the Hajar Mountains. After the visit I think it’s time to say good-bye to Hatta still more places like Hatta wadi hub and some attractions which I left for my future revisit. And starts another three-hour journey to reach Dubai and from there an hour journey in metro to reach my camp.

“For this journey I spent about 40 dhs and a day in my life, and I got back the beautiful hours full of memories”
